Chocolate Hummus [GF + V]

First of all: don’t judge—dessert hummus is totally a thing!

Before you write it off, take garlic out of the hummus equation…all you really have left is chickpeas. These are a neutral ingredient, so adding chocolate to them really isn’t that strange of an idea after all!😉


This sweet twist on hummus helps add a protein kick to smoothie bowls, oatmeal and SO much more!

It’s also great served with fruit/crackers, spread across a tasty piece of toast or in yogurt.

Chocolate Hummus [V + GF]

Prep time: 10 minutes

Total time: 10 minutes

Yield: 12 oz (1 1/2 cups)

Equipment

Food processor (see mine!)
12 oz glass jar

Ingredients

5 dates
3 Tbsp hot water
15 oz chickpeas, drained & rinsed
3 Tbsp cacao powder
A dash of cinnamon

Optional toppings:
Unsweetened coconut flakes
Cacao nibs
Cacao powder

Instructions

  1. Add pitted dates to the bowl of your food processor. Process on high until dates are roughly chopped.
  2. Pour in water 1 Tbsp at a time, processing on high to further break up dates. Don’t use all 3 Tbsp if you don’t feel the need to.
  3. Next transfer chickpeas to the food processor. Process on high until the beans are broken down into a paste. Use a spatula to scrape the sides as necessary.
  4. Add cacao powder and cinnamon then pulse into mixture. Taste and adjust cacao and cinnamon accordingly.
  5. When your hummus is ready, transfer it to a serving bowl or sealed glass jar. Store in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. Serve with fruit, vegetables, crackers, on toast or more! Enjoy!
