How to Cut a Pineapple

Do you ever find yourself standing in the produce section brainstorming delicious recipes ideas using exotic fruits and vegetables before realizing you have absolutely no idea how to prepare them? I’ve definitely been there more times than I’d like to admit!😝

Pineapple, although delicious, can be very intimidating. At first glance you might wonder how the heck you’re supposed to get the fruit out of the prickly skin. But have no fear! I’ve made a step-by-step guide detailing how to cut a pineapple to ensure you harvest the most juicy flesh as you can from your fruit.

What you need:
A large sharp knife
A small circular cookie cutter OR small sharp knife

Step 1: Remove Top

The first thing you should do is remove the top of the pineapple to create a flat surface. Lay your pineapple on its side and, using your large knife, cut the top of the pineapple off about 1/2″ from the root of the leaves. Discard the top to your compost bin.

Step 2: Remove Bottom

Next cut of the bottom of the pineapple. Keep the fruit on its side and use the same method as step 1.

Step 3: Remove Skin

Now we’re on to the fun part! Stand your pineapple up on one of the flat edges you’ve created. Still using your sharp knife, slice from the top to the bottom to start removing the skin from 4 sides of the pineapple. Keep in mind that the fruit is round so you’ll be creating a sort of square of peeled pineapple and the rounded corners will remain covered.

Once you’ve cut off the four large sections of the skin, go back and carefully remove the small pieces remaining.

Step 4: Slice Into Rings

Lay the now bare pineapple back on its side. Use your small knife to slice into rings of your desired thickness.

Step 5: Cut Out Core

Handling one ring at time, use your cookie cutter or small knife to cut out the pale circular core. Do this until all of your rings have hollow centers.

Step 6: Devour

Now that you’ve got your pineapple prepared what else is there left to do besides dig in??😜 Enjoy, friends!
